Running away with it
Saturday, October 10 - Sunday, Nov 29
Running Away with it considers the speed at which carefully designed, resource-rich everyday objects pass through the artists’ own life. Intercepting these post-consumer products on their way to disposal, Tom Henty transforms packaging, containers, boxes, cans and print catalogues into sustained meditations on value and responsibility. Through this process, his sculptures, collages and prints become a measure of activity and time - assemblages that observe the passage of objects through the everyday and, more broadly, through a culture organised around convenience and constant renewal. What appears disposable is therefore connected to themes much larger and more enduring - the complexity, beauty and ingenuity of the materials world we have constructed, and the consequences of treating each landscape as endlessly replaceable.
